Alpspitze, KG-Weg

We climbed the lower half of the "KG-Weg" at the Alpspitze near Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Wettersteingebirge. This is a fun 7-pitch route with difficulties up to UIAA IV+. As this was a Sunday the area was pretty packed with people and quite a few rocks came raining down on us. Originally we had planned to do the (less popular) second half of the route as well, but we couldn't find it because of too much snow and retreated at the large ledge.

We took the 9am gondola of the Alpspitzbahn to get to the Osterfelderkopf. From here it's a short walk over to the start of the route near the tunnel entrance. We put on harnesses, started climbing at 10am, and arrived on the large ledge near the "Herzl" at 2.15pm. Descended via the Nordwand Ferrata, had some food at the hut and took the 5pm gondola down to the parking lot.
